The Opatija Riviera in the late 19th century became a very popular winter resort for the aristocracy, who built here spacious residences, especially in Opatija and Lovran. The Kvarner islands are Krk, Cres, Rab, Mali Losinj and part of Pag. Popular tourist resorts on the southwest coast are located southern of Crikvenica, Novi Vinodolski and Senj to Karlobag.
